Vancouver, Washington - Herb Anderson, 83, passed away at home in Vancouver, Wa on February 9, 2024. Herb was born June 20, 1940 in Wendell, ID to Paul Christian Anderson and Ester Bell Estep Anderson, the first of their two sons. They moved to Fairfield, ID where Paul owned and operated a Blacksmith Shop. At age 8, Herb was hospitalized in Boise, ID with a mild case polio where he made a full recovery. His family then moved around the Pacific Northwest as Paul worked on the construction of numerous dams. Herb attended high school in Richland, OR where he was active in many sports, class VP and student council. Herb met Ruth Anne Bowman in high school whom he later married in 1958. They lived in Baker City, OR and had 3 children, Barbara J. Davis, Debra K. (Rod) MacLean and Douglas P. Anderson (deceased). Herb worked for Basche-Sage Hardware. Herb and family became avid snow skiers spending every weekend on the mountain. He and Ruth later divorced in 1970 and Herb moved to Boise, ID to take a position at NCR Solutions. It was there that he met his soulmate Jeanne Audrey Blevins and they married in 1972. She had 3 children, Tarri (Fred) Martin, Traci (Stuart) Hill and Scott (Penny) Blevins. Herb was on the ski patrol at Bogus Basin and continued to an avid skier. He also enjoyed dirk bike riding. Herb then took a promotion at NCR in Eugene, OR and then San Francisco, CA. He was a top performer in Sales and Sales Management for NCR for 40 plus years. He traveled all over the world during his tenure. Herb became a licensed pilot and bought a Mooney airplane that he flew often. From the Bay Area they ended up in Carlsbad, CA where they lived until a few years before he retired from NCR in Mesa, AZ. Southern California and Mesa were the perfect locations for him and his love of golf. He played nearly every week with neighbors, friends and family. In 2008 he even got a Hole in One. Herb is sorely missed by everyone who knew him and his beautiful smile that was contagious. He was a very accomplished man that was always kind, loving and fun! Herb had a thirst for knowledge and adventure. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanne, his son Doug and grandson Colin. He is survived by his brother Kent and nephews Jeff and Marc. Also his five children, their significant others and his 13 grandchildren Robyn (Josh), Kyle (Lyndsay), Conner (Jennifer), Cameron (Camille), Travis, Tori (Mac), Blythe, Rachelle, Fred Jr., Charlie, Sydnie, Kayla and Brandon. Herb also had 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great greats! A Celebration of Life will be held in April for family and friends. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Herb's name can make it at Barrow Neurological Institute, 350 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85013, for research and a cure for Alzheimer's.
