Mesa, AZ - Mary Jacqueline Eastin (Jacque), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in Mesa, Arizona on January 26, 2024, at the age of 92. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Jacque was born on January 16, 1932, in Ajo, AZ, to Mayo and Louisa Shackelford. She was the fourth of five daughters, surviving her sisters Kathleen, Ruby, Gertrude, and Joyce. Growing up in a family connected to the copper mining industry, Jacque learned the values of hard work and perseverance from her parents.
After graduating from Ajo High School, Jacque pursued her education at Southern California Bible College. She worked at the Phelps Dodge Company store and shared her musical talents by playing the piano.
Jacque met James Eastin in 1953, and the two were married that Christmas Eve. James and Jacque's journey led them to Waxahachie, TX, where James attended Southwestern Bible College, and where Jacque gave birth to their first son, Jim. Jacque continued to work outside the home and in ministry as the family continued to grow with the addition of sons Dwaine and Steve.
Jacque supported her husband James, the pastor of four Assembly of God churches: Blanding, UT, Roy, UT, Tempe, AZ, and Williams, AZ. As a pastor's wife, Jacque devoted over 40 years of service at various churches, making great impact on the children's ministries. In her husband James' words, "she was a true helpmate, and everyone loved Jacque." In addition to the ministry, Jacque also helped operate their family-owned laundromats and dry-cleaning businesses. In her post-retirement years, Jacque assisted James in founding the Arizona AG Retired Ministers, Wives & Widows Fellowship, offering support to fellow ministers.
Celebrating their 70th anniversary on December 24, 2023, and Jacque's 92nd birthday on January 16, 2024, the Eastins cherished a lifetime of shared love and commitment. On January 26, 2024, Jacque peacefully passed on to Heaven, leaving behind her loving husband James and a cherished family. She is also survived by her three devoted sons: Jim (Patty), Dwaine (Denise), and Steve (Aileen). Jacque's legacy extends to her eleven adoring grandchildren: Katie, Priscilla, Trevor (Mackensie), Jon, Kris (Francesca), Cameron (Amanda), Thomas (Shalyn), Cody (Christina), Kassi (Logan), Charlie and Henry; and four great-grandchildren: Caleb, Leroy, Wesson, and Waylon; and Jacque's love will continue to blossom through two unborn great-grandsons who will soon make their debut.
Jacque's life was a tapestry of love, woven with the threads of family bonds that will endure in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Jacque will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and the lasting impact she made on each generation of her family. May Jacque's memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
