Apache Junction, Arizona - Ron was probably ill since he had Covid in 2021. He lost his sense of taste and became a very picky eater. He walked 4 miles a day but people are now telling me they'd see him sitting on a bench resting. He never complained and said he was fine. Last Wednesday he bowled, and walked to the ice cream shop. Then we visited with friends and he grilled our dinner. Perfectly normal day. Thursday he played bean bag. People told me he put his hand on his heart and sat down a lot. Others saw him pushing his bike instead of riding it. He denied everything. He said he was tired and didn't want to go to the multi-gen. The next day he said he felt very sleepy. We got Covid tests and he tried to get in to a dr. He only ate 2 spoons of soup and drank a little water. Saturday I was out buying him electrolytes and then was going to take him to urgent care. He took a shower, got dressed and fell flat on the floor. Ambulance came and took him to Mountain Vista. We were surprised to hear it was his heart as there is no history. He had probably had a "silent heart attack" on Thursday and maybe even months before. 2 stents and a heart pump were put in. Only had 20% heart function. Sunday....his kidneys were not functioning properly. Monday....pacemaker implanted. Put on ventilator. Dr. Said his heart is very damaged but they're not giving up yet. Tuesday they removed the Impella pump. DNR was discussed and decision to allow brief CPR and 2 dialysis treatments. Without out it he wouldn't survive for sure. Then the nephrologist called and said he is not making urine and his blood pressure is low. His left leg blood supply is not there. Dialysis would cause him torture and not improve the situation. His lungs were fading. He said "in my humble opinion if he were my father I would let him go peacefully. Ron's final breath was 1015 p.m. his passing was very peaceful and we were there.
Ron loved his Lord and his family. He loved fishing, bowling, volunteering at the food bank, singing in the church choir, going for walks, road trips and eating out.
