Scottsdale, Arizona - Steven D. Hanson was born January 28, 1954, the eldest son of Duane and Phyllis Hanson. He grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Parkrose High School. Steve lost his battle with Glioblastoma, on Friday, May 15, 2020.
Steve often said the best years of his life started when he met his wife, Dorie. Their connection was deep, present, and a wonderful testimony of their love. They enjoyed many of the same interests, including travel. With a goal of putting their toes in the sand on each continent, some favorite places included Cape Town, South Africa; Barcelona, Spain; and Zapallar, Chile.
Steve was a car guy, a Porsche aficionado, and the first Saturday of the month, he would have been at Cars and Coffee in Scottsdale. He owned many Porsches throughout his life, but usually would drive his favorite; a 1984, chiffon white, 911 Carrera Coupe.
Steve was an athlete and well-rounded sportsman. He enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, hiking, tennis and running. Inspired at University of Oregon by then-senior track star and Olympian Steve "Pre" Prefontaine, Steve took up running and it became a lifelong passion. After moving to Scottsdale in 2012, he was a regular at the Village Health Club, often joining Dorie on the tennis court.
After graduating in finance from U of O, Steve's first job was with Freightliner, in Portland. He soon moved into the tech world where he was successful in developing software sales teams, mentoring future sales leaders, and exceeding revenue growth plans. Most recently he was senior vice president of sales at Emailage, acquired by LexisNexis.
Steve was a dear friend to many; in Arizona, where he lived most recently, Oregon, where he grew up, and around the country. He was a great listener, sympathetic and kind; quick to smile and encourage. His viewpoint and sound advice were important, well thought-out and meaningful. He will remain in our hearts because of that.
Steve is survived by his wife, Dorie M. Hanson, of Scottsdale; sons, Chris Hanson of Scottsdale and Alec Armijo of Portland; grandchildren, Madison & Preston Hanson and daughter-in-law, Ashley Jewett of Scottsdale; mother, Phyllis Hanson of Portland; siblings, Susan Kannan of Portland, Chuck & Caroline Hanson of Boise; Steve was preceded in death by his father, Duane Waldmer Hanson.
The Hanson Foundation has been created as a legacy to Steve and will provide resources for causes important to Steve and Dorie.
Celebration of life services for Steve will be held in late spring, 2021.
